The top 4 supplements everyone needs

Taking supplements is a controversial topic, even if you eat a well-balanced whole food diet the chances are there are still nutrients that you lack.

The supplement market can be very confusing, often leaving people wondering where to start.

Listed below is my opinion of the 4 most important supplements for optimal health and body composition.

Fish oil – you need to look for a product which contains both EPA and DHA fatty acids.

Benefits include:

  • Omega 3 turns a fat burning glad on in the body
  • It helps keep the thyroid healthy and will increase metabolism
  • Helps the body become more insulin sensitive (better at using sugar)
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Helps brain function

Zinc – is one of the supplements considered to be an “essential supplement”. It is no secret that zinc is an effective mineral for boosting the immune system but zinc has a lot of other benefits as well.

Zinc also helps to increase natural testosterone levels, by turning off a process in the body known as aromatize.

Multi vitamin – Many people believe you can get all the nutrients you need from food, nutritional surveys don’t support this (see the graph below).


The processing of food and wide use of pesticides and herbicides destroys the nutrition profile of foods. A good multi vitamin provides the body with all the nutrients it needs to keep functioning in good health.

Magnesium – is a mineral that aids relaxation and is good at helping to overcome insomnia. Magnesium not only reduces your cortisol levels (stress hormone) back to a normal level it also helps keep your heart healthy.
